Why You Should Consider An Engagement Session

More often than not, engagement photo sessions are looked at as an optional service that isn’t of much value. I have heard repeatedly throughout the years, “No, we don’t need an engagement session because we aren’t sending save the dates.” or “Those are just for Facebook, right?”

Yes, engagement sessions are great for a new head shot, a photo for Instagram or Facebook, and for save – the- dates, BUT these aren’t reasons why you need one.

Here are my top four reasons why I believe you need an engagement session:

1. Builds TRUST: This is my number one reason why you should do an engagement session! There is no faster way to build trust with your photographer than with an engagement session. You hired your photographer because of their work and their personality, but getting in front of their camera is the only way to see them in action! After your session you will experience how your images will be delivered and the delivery process first hand. Do you feel valued? You should!

2. Helps to make you COMFORTABLE in front of the camera: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…even Victoria’s Secret Model’s need direction. No one feels one hundred percent comfortable in front of the camera and that is perfectly okay! It is my job to make you feel comfortable. When you are in front of my camera I don’t want you to feel awkward, uncomfortable, or second guess yourself. You should feel like a rock star because you’re rocking this photo shoot! An engagement session gives you the opportunity to get through the nervousness before your wedding day. Think of it as your last practice before the World Cup. After your engagement session, share which images are your favorites with your photographer. This helps us to see your perspective and will help us to better navigate your portrait time on your wedding day!

3. Sets your EXPECTATIONS for the wedding day: Being in front of the camera is the only way to fully experience your photographer’s talents. The way they direct you, speak to you, how fast or slow they shoot, how they make you feel in front of the camera, their shooting style, etc. With an engagement session you will know what to expect from them before, during, and after your wedding day.

4. CELEBRATE: Don’t forget to celebrate this wonderful time in your life! It is a milestone in your relationship filled with hopes and dreams of the future. Enjoy this time together, don’t rush, and commemorate it with lots of photos!
