We trekked deep into the Los Angeles Mountains for this engagement session. I’m so thankful Lauryn & Chris were up for the walk because it was so worth it! I often forget about the amazing natural scenery Los Angeles has to offer because I am consistently surrounded by freeways and skyscrapers. These two were so natural in front of the camera from the start.
I always strive to make my couples feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Chris gave me one of the best compliment I’ve ever received when he told me that being photographed by me was like being photographed by a friend.
Proposal story from the bride ~ “I arrived in Long Beach Friday night, and we spent a great weekend together. It just so happened that my mom and grandma had an AWP (Pepperdine) fundraiser at the Church of Christ in Long Beach Sunday morning. We decided to go with them, so I would have a little time to see my family. After church my grandma and my aunt Janie wanted to come see Chris` place. We made cookies, and just hung out for a little bit. Janie wanted to take some pictures of Long Beach (she always wants to take pictures, so this was nothing out of the ordinary). Her and my grandma decided to go down to the pier, and my mom suggested we go have a glass of wine. Well, I knew the perfect spot we could go to and have a glass. My new favorite wine bar… this is where I started messing up the plan. Chris, my little sister, my mom and I started walking. I wanted to put flip flops on because I didn’t want to walk in heels. My mom said it wasn’t that far and to keep them on. We started walking, and mom said we should just meet grandma and Janie down by the pier, that we could get a glass of wine down there somewhere. I thoughtdifferently. Why would we walk 6 blocks to the pier when there is a perfectly good wine bar 3 blocks closer. Finally, I agreed to walk down to the pier…but only if I could stop at the little store and buy Toms to change into. I didn’t care if they didn’t match my dress, I just wanted to be comfortable. We finally get to the pier, and Taylor (sister) convinces me to put my heels back on because Janie will probably want to take a picture. The actual Proposal: We walked down to the end of the pier, and Chris was telling me all sorts of trivia about the Queen Mary, and the harbor… all normal things for him. He is full of random facts. All the sudden he looks at me and says, “Babe, do you trust me?” I said, “yeah, that’s random” he moved me over and before I knew it he was on one knee. I was shocked. He said some very sweet things (that I will keep for myself) and then said on this day, in front of God, your family, and everyone on this pier I want you to say you will be my wife. Lauryn Kathryn Irvin will you marry me?” Of course, I said yes. It was perfect. Except this random girl by the side of the pier was taking our picture. Chris must have noticed that I thought it was weird because before I could even say it, he told me he hired her to capture our special day! Then, he said he had champagne waiting for us at the restaurant on the pier. When we walked out to the patio at the restaurant, I saw my aunt Reagan, Uncle Kevin, Step-dad, grandma, cousins, grandpa, and other family. It was the most perfect proposal. I could`t have planned it any better myself.”
